Submitting a Paper to IEEE Transactions on Computers

This journal is a hybrid publication, allowing either traditional manuscript submission or author-paid Open Access (OA) manuscript submission. Read about OA submissions here.

Detailed information on submitting your paper to an IEEE Computer Society publication can be found on the Author Guidelines page.

TC manuscript types and submission length guidelines are described below. All page limits include references and author biographies. For regular papers, pages in excess of these limits after final layout of the accepted manuscript is complete are subject to Mandatory Overlength Page Charges (MOPC). Note: All supplemental material must be submitted as separate files and must not be included within the same PDF file as the main paper submission. There is no page limit on supplemental files.

  • Regular papers – These submissions are between 10 and 12 double-column pages* before MOPC applies. Maximum article length (for articles paying MOPC) is strictly limited to 14 pages. Article page counts include all text and figures; references, which are capped at 45; and author biographies, each of which shall be 145 words or less. (In certain rare cases, with prior approval from the editor in chief, longer submissions can be considered–up to 16 pages maximum (subject to MOPC).)
  • Brief communications – These submissions, which should be novel, high-quality research, are 8 double-column pages.* These page counts include all text and figures, including references, which are capped at 25. Please note that there are no author biographies in TC brief communications.
*Pages are defined as two columns, no larger than 7.875″ x 10.75″, with 9.5-point font/type and 11.5-point vertical spacing. These page lengths also include reasonably sized (readable) figures and references.

Extended versions of published conference papers are welcome, but they must have at least 40% new impacting technical/scientific material in the submitted journal version, and there should be less than 30% verbatim similarity as reported by a tool (such as CrossRef). Additionally, the conference papers and the detailed summary of differences must be included as part of the journal submission to TC.
