Abstract

This paper introduces the concept of cache-oblivious scanline algorithms and their design issues to overcome the limitations of cache size and cache linelength within existing workstations, making them suitable for the visualisation of very large 3D data sets. Unlike the standard RAM model, the cache-oblivious model can tune cache parameters without knowing them to minimize cache misses and data movement among multiple levels of caches.
