Abstract
Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) is an emerging, decentralized approach to identity management that allows users to fully control and manage their digital identity, mainly through digital wallets. From the users' point of view, wallets are a crucial component for connecting and interacting with other entities and for obtaining and sharing identity data in the form of verifiable credentials and verifiable presentations. Therefore, user interfaces must be carefully designed and offer a good user experience. We present a study in which we identified shortcomings, challenges, good practices, and design patterns of SSI user interfaces and user experience by analyzing SSI digital wallets.
