Abstract

Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of Xi San Zang Decoction concomitant with musicotherapy in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) due to syndrome of liver and kidney deficiency. Methods: A total of 62 patients with KOA due to syndrome of liver and kidney deficiency were randomized into treatment group and control group based on random number table, 31 cases in each group. Treatment group received oral Xi San Zang Decoction concomitant with musicotherapy (in which 3 music songs with Mi tones and La tones were selected and played circularly in the morning, at noon and at night in quiet environment with doors and windows closed, 20 min per song, with song decibel (DB) controlled <70 (better at 40 to 60), concomitant with Xi San Zang Decoction, decocted by water, 100 mL, bid. Control group received Imrecoxib Tablets 1 tablet per dose, bid. The changes of Lysholm score and VAS score before and after treatment, the clinical efficacy and the changes of levels of related serum factors were compared between two groups. Results: After treatment, Lysholm score and VAS score significantly improved than those before treatment and the clinical efficacy was prominent in both groups, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.01). Treatment group was superior to control group in the improvement of Lysholm score and VAS score after treatment and was better in clinical efficacy than control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Treatment group was evidently lower in the levels of serum interleukin (IL)-1 and tumour necrosis factor (TNF) -α than control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Xi San Zang Decoction concomitant with musicotherapy has good efficacy in treatment KOA, deserving to be clinically studied and popularized.
