Abstract

Wireless Internet platform for interoperability (WIPI) is essential to facilitate seamless applications for handset devices. Wireless devices have ubiquitous presence in our daily lives today. The existence of several access technologies and a multitude of devices hinder the growth and evolution of new applications and services. Interoperability and Integration of several technologies seamlessly to the user and unified access is a key criteria and growth engine for the faster and quicker adoption of newer technologies and devices. Users like to have things simple and easy to operate. Users like to use a single device that facilitates a plethora of technologies that the user could use based on his needs. We modify an existing device bundled with configuration software that includes features of most wireless devices and facilitates connection to a multitude of carriers and/or technologies. The handset configuration manager then facilitates the user to enable the services provided by the underlying technologies wrapped in his daily requirements and concerns. The device routes the call through the user preferences to the concerned carrier and/or technology and enhances the true meaning of portability across technologies and carriers. Call cost is an essential criterion to the usage of services and this paper presents this approach to optimize cost and other call parameters using the handset configuration manager.
