Abstract

Enhanced Spatial Modulation (ESM) technique is an improvement of SM technology, which adopts primary signal constellation during the single active antenna time slot and secondary signal constellation during the time slot with two active transmit antennas. In this paper, Enhanced Spatial Modulation based on antenna groups (GESM) scheme is proposed for high speed railway (HSR) communication systems. In the proposed GESM scheme, GESM is adopted at transmitter and antenna groups or antennas can be selected at the base station (BS) to transmit data. The maximum likelihood (ML) detector is used for decoding the received modulated symbols on the train. The data rate (bit per channel use: bpcu) and bit error rate (BER) performance of the GESM system under HSR channel model are investigated. Theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed GESM scheme has significant improvement in the data rate and the BER performance is affected by the number of antennas and the modulation order.
