Abstract
DICE: Discover, Imagine, and ChangE is a pedagogical approach for mobile learning that grew out of a study focusing on the unique affordances of mobile technologies. DICE supports the designing of place-based learning activities with the assistance of mobile applications. As such, the model has been examined within the context of geography and cultural heritage, prior to and during the pandemic. The paper outlines DICE's main characteristics through data gathered from case studies in which young as well as adult learners took part. Through participating in these place-based, collaborative, and mobile-technology enhanced activities, learners uncover the invisible in familiar places and become more aware of their surroundings, while the place becomes a powerful object to learn with.
