Abstract
The PAME project aims to develop a web-based system for the remote monitoring of the physical activity of elder people to facilitate the reporting of such activity to primary care physicians. The physical activity is recorded using accelerometry-based devices such as smartphones, which are becoming ubiquitous in our society. A smartphone application was developed in order to acquire, and process the data which is stored and reported using a web system. The PAME project is a low-cost alternative to service groups of population at risk such as the elderly in developing countries such as Ecuador, in order to improve their health and quality of life. The application will be available for local governments, in order to provide a health service that will cover effectively a larger portion of population promoting health democratization at low cost.
