Abstract
Recent research shows that wavelet-based image-compression techniques offer several advantages over traditional techniques such as DCT & DFT in terms of progressive transmission & storage capability, compression efficiency, and bandwidth utilization and etc. The embedded zero tree wavelet coding technique is suggests by Shapiro, and its modification is used in image compression. We use embedded color zero-tree wavelet (ECZW) technique for implementation color image compression on DM642. The ECZW based image coding framework consists of four stages: 1) buffering input 4:2:0 YUV and composite decompose it to Y, Cr and Cb; 2) discrete wavelet transform; 3) ordering and selection of wavelet coefficients with EZW technique; and 4) entropy & arithmetic coding. The performance of the compression algorithm depends on the choice of various parameters and the implementation techniques are used in all these four stages. In this paper, we present a control scheme for ECZW codec. At the end of this paper we show testing and optimization results for ECZW codec implementation.
