Abstract
The Internet Protocol (IP) architecture is very flexible and allows the transmission of any type of service over it. This is one of the main advantages when it is used for video transmission. IPTV service is currently one of the hot topics where industry and academia is providing their efforts and obtaining significant results. The next big step is to serve stereoscopic (3D) video and 3D-TV over IP networks. In this paper, first, we will carry out an overview of the coding systems used in 3D IPTV at this time. Then, we will evaluate the transmission of 3D video over IP. We will take measurements of the bandwidth, delay and jitter in order to evaluate the QoS and QoE of the IPTV service. This study will show the performance of 3D video over an IPTV network and will demonstrate that, in spite of the bandwidth consumed, 3D video can be provided in these networks.
