Abstract

Nanotechnology is rapidly commercializing, with applications across a wide range of energy, medicine, electronics, and consumer products sectors. Nanomanufacturing facilities that are beginning to scale-up production capacities are facing significant uncertainty regarding future market demand, potential nanomaterial risks, appropriate workplace safeguards, environmental protections, and commercialization regulations. A decision support model is developed based on desirability functions to optimize these tradeoff decisions. Sensitivity and what-if analyses are conducted to further analyze the impact of uncertainties. These models can help decision-makers develop a better understanding of trade-offs and uncertainties regarding nanotechnology manufacturing and commercialization.
