Abstract
To explore the proper size of SupremeTM largeal mask airway in anesthetic practice for Chinese adult patients, 4804 females and 2089 males (age 18-80 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I&II) were enrolled in the study. We chose size 4 SLMA for males and size 3 SLMA for females regardless of body weight. Both of the females (with SLMA size 3) and males (with SLMA size 4) have a high successful rate of inserting the SLMA after general anesthesia. The SLMA size 3 had a significantly lower incidence of mucosal injury than the SLMA size 4 (P0.05). In conclusion, regardless of body weight, Supreme LMA size 3 is better for females and size 4 is better for male with higher inserting successful rate and fewer complications.
