Abstract

To investigate the dynamic characteristics of a plasma synthetic jet (PSJ), we used dynamic pressure sensors and high-speed schlieren method to study the similarities and differences of the dynamic characteristics of PSJ under the same PSJ structural and electrical parameters. It was observed that the excitation frequency of the jet measured by the above two approaches was consistent with the discharge frequency of PSJ under the test actuation frequency. When the actuation frequency was between 100 Hz and 200 Hz, the jet duration in one cycle obtained by the schlieren was about 12% longer than that measured by the dynamic pressure sensor. While the excitation frequency was reduced to 50 Hz, the jet duration measured by the schlieren became shorter than that got by the dynamic pressure sensor. Although the specific values of the jet velocity of PSJ measured by the two methods were different, the trend of the peck velocity was similar obtained by the schlieren and pressure sensor.
