In August 2021, the Returning Mothers Conference was held to create a platform for discourse between industry and the scientists and engineers in India who aim to rejoin the workforce after giving birth. The conference also focused on providing end-to-end entrepreneurial training and business setup support.
456 participants from 47 countries and 50 speakers joined to make this a successful event. A post-conference course is being offered by The Lighthouse to 40 scholarship winners. This two-month intensive course on personal branding through storytelling.

3 Key Tracks
The conference speakers were categorized into three key areas of inspiration, entrepreneurship, and invention. Recordings from each panel discussion are available for free on the Returning Mothers Conference 2021 YouTube channel.
Inspire and Engage
This track highlights the importance of career development, or upskilling, as a professional prepares to return to the workforce by ensuring they have the skills currently in demand.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
The goal of the innovation and entrepreneurship track is to motivate mothers and other professionals who took a break in their careers due to personal life priorities and help them reorientate and become successful entrepreneurs. This includes events IDEATHON and PitchFest.
Novelty and Invention
Focused on education professionals with a STEM, Novelty and Invention educates on the importance of intellectual property rights and brings awareness to the many laws in India.
About Returning Mothers
Returning Mothers was founded six years ago as a small workshop for returning mothers in Coimbatore, India to inspire professionals to return to a sustainable career after taking a break. With the support of IEEE Computer Society and WePower, the first conference was held in 2019 and has continued to grow and impact the lives of WIE affinity groups throughout India.
