The theme for this year’s National Volunteers Week is especially fitting for IEEE Computer Society volunteers, reflecting the long-term impact of the work performed by our volunteers and members. For 75 years, the Computer Society has brought together researchers, academics, and practitioners by providing resources that have enabled countless breakthroughs and technological innovations.
None of the many Computer Society resources – events, publications, standards, membership activities, community networks, and more – are possible without the passionate contributions of volunteers at every level of the organization.
We endeavor to appreciate and acknowledge our volunteers year around, but this week provides a special opportunity to highlight and showcase the amazing achievements and accomplishments of Computer Society volunteers. And, perhaps, through these stories, we will inspire even more members to serve their technical communities and make an impact by taking part in the many opportunities available to volunteer.
I extend my sincere thanks to all Computer Society volunteers for contributing their expertise and enthusiasm to advancing our profession. Working together, we are truly improving today for tomorrow.
With warm regards,
Forrest J. Shull
2021 IEEE Computer Society President
