Abstract

The technical and economic evaluation of a long lossy transmission line compensated with series capacitors is discussed. The influence of capacitor size and location on the maximum power at the receiving-end, maximum power transfer efficiency and steady-state voltage stability (voltage-collapse) are set forth. It is shown that a certain range of capacitor values and locations are economically justifiable and that for different power factor loads the problem of voltage-collapse is reduced. The size and location of the series capacitor banks do not have much impart on the maximum power transfer efficiency but are of importance in the determination of the load power factor at which this occurs.<>
