LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 28 February 2017 — The IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors has approved the first transition and consolidation of a Special Technical Community (STC) to a Technical Committee (TC). The IEEE CS TC on Cloud Computing (TCCLD) has transitioned from an initiative under IEEE Future Emerging Technologies to be operational as a STC under the Computer Society for the last three years, before the final approval as a TC.
In this way, the IEEE CS Special Technical Community (STC) on Cloud Computing has reached its maturity, becoming a Technical Committee of the IEEE Computer Society. This STC has kept its IEEE wide participation with societies across the IEEE, involved in both activities and the steering board.
Cloud computing has become a distinctive business sector with large players and a plethora of smaller providers, while enabling further trends. This highly active STC currently has nearly 11,000 members, while its activities have been shared by Blogs, Podcasts, and social media such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Flipboard. The STC keeps close involvement with its spinoff publications, IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing (TCC) and IEEE Cloud Magazine. IEEE standards and education modules on Cloud topics, also originating from this STC, have now been transitioned to the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Cloud Computing (TCCLD). Key participants include Chunming Rong (Chair) and Christine Miyachi (Former Chair).
