LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., (January 2, 2025) – The IEEE Computer Society’s mission (CS) has always been about community – supporting the education, growth, connection, and successes of the engineering and computer science leaders who advance computer technologies to benefit humanity. To that end, IEEE CS is excited to launch a new award that will empower, recognize, and celebrate individuals or organizations exhibiting outstanding database education.
The IEEE Computer Society Technical Community on Data Engineering (TCDE) Ramez Elmasri Outstanding Database Education Award will recognize outstanding contributions to the education and learning of the data engineering and information processing field. The award honors the memory of the late Ramez Elmarsi, a pioneer in the database field who wrote highly influential textbooks. In fact, he co-authored Fundamentals of Database Systems, which is now in its seventh edition, and has been used worldwide for the last 25 years.
The IEEE Computer Society Technical Community on Data Engineering Ramez Elmasri Outstanding Database Education Award will be administered by the TCDE on an annual basis. Awardees will receive a USD $2,000 honorarium, as well as a recognition plaque. An initial USD $57,201 fund established within the IEEE Foundation will support the administration of the award.
To be considered for the award, candidates must demonstrate a significant contribution of a widely used, high-impact educational resource or tool for the teaching and learning of databases and information systems.
The Call for Nominations for the award is open now through 7 February 2025.
