Celebrate IEEE Day

We are excited to celebrate and honor the 15th year of IEEE Day. Celebrated on the first Tuesday in October each year, IEEE Day honors the incredible contributions and achievements made by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to the fields of technology and engineering. This year, IEEE Day falls on 1 October, 2024, and we’re excited to celebrate with a new focus on diversity and inclusion, expanding the reach of IEEE across the globe.

In this article, you’ll learn about the history of IEEE Day, reasons to highlight it in your local community, ways to get involved, and how the IEEE Computer Society continues to impact technology in transformative ways.

History of IEEE Day

IEEE Day was officially inaugurated in 2010, commemorating the anniversary of the founding of IEEE in 1884. This day celebrates the historic merger of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE), which united various branches of electrical and electronics engineering under one banner. Since then, IEEE has continued to drive technology forward, becoming the world’s largest technical professional organization.

Why Celebrate IEEE Day?

Fostering Innovation: IEEE has played an instrumental role in driving innovation.
